Summer is here, and it's time to get out there and explore! However, remember that having fun should also bear a certain amount of safety, precaution, and responsibility.
So before you get behind the wheel, learn about your auto insurance policy and what to do if you're renting a vehicle. This way, nothing can get in the way of your next road trip or vacation! Here are some car insurance tips you should be aware of:
Making a Choice for Vacation Car Rental Insurance
For your mode of transportation, you either intend to use your vehicle or a rental car. For your selection, know that your final choice affects your auto insurance obligations as well as how you plan your vacation.
While your vehicle insurance coverage will protect you if you drive your own car, there are a few things to keep in mind and various factors to consider before renting.
Personal Automobile Insurance vs. Rental Vehicle Insurance
Insurance alternatives are provided by rental car companies, such as the Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), Supplemental Liability Coverage (SLC), Personal Accident Insurance (PAI), and Personal Effects Coverage (PEC).
If a driver does not have auto insurance, they must obtain LDW and SLC or purchase separate coverage before renting. A driver who owns a car and has insurance has more choices.
For example, your automobile insurance may cover certain accident costs. With comprehensive coverage on your vehicle, you can skip the rental insurance. If your car just has the basic minimum liability coverage, consider adding rental coverage.
Credit Card Transactions for Rental Car Insurance
Depending on your credit card issuer, there is usually a high chance that they will cover the LDW if you pay for the rental with your card. Additionally, they may provide more travel advantages, so contact them before you plan your trip!
Check for Perks
Insurance usually comes in packages with perks and benefits. For example, roadside assistance and towing are often included or made available as a bonus for drivers with comprehensive coverage.
Before embarking on your adventure, make sure that option is activated. Moreover, try requesting roadside assistance or purchasing a third-party option while renting a car. Regardless of how you get it, be sure you have a way to contact help if you get stuck.
Update Your Coverage in Orlando Florida and beyond
For a road trip, no matter how short or extensive, make sure you update your coverage. As an example, your minimum liability insurance coverage may be insufficient come to the event of a road disaster. If you travel to a state with stricter insurance requirements, your policy may not cover an out-of-state accident.
For out-of-state incidents, most insurers grant a temporary increase up to the state's legal minimum. If your insurance policy does not cover the total accident, you will be responsible for answering the difference and perhaps more costs!
Double Check Before Travel About Getting Proper Insurance
To ensure that you get the finest holiday possible, inquire about automotive or car insurance. Contact your provider to ask and confirm coverage and, if required, expand it.
This way, you don’t have to worry about letting skilled and responsible drivers in your family take the wheel. Thus, it's always a good idea to double-check.
Conclusion
As we’ve said, enjoying new experiences and having fun should entail a level of responsibility. By inquiring and updating your car insurance policy, you give you and your family a safety net when it comes to unforeseen financial costs.
While this isn’t a ticket to get into accidents, it could still offer you some peace of mind and assurance. So, don’t overlook this critical step—you’ll need it!

Sanford voters have elected Art Woodruff to a new term as Mayor.
The election was held Tuesday, with 80 of 82 precincts reporting. With 54% of the votes cast, it was a decisive victory for Woodruff. His opponent Charles Davis received 46% of the votes cast.
It was not the first time Woodruff and Davis had run against each other at the polls. In fact, this is their fourth election in less than a decade. This time, however, some key differences between their platforms helped shape how each candidate would run their campaign.
Woodruff’s main focus was on parking in Sanford’s downtown district, managing the city’s recent growth, and increasing salaries for Sanford employees. He also advocated for how the city should move forward on the planned Heritage Park development project.
